Mentoring Through the EU Space Academy

Learning about the space business is easier when you can talk to someone who works in it.

The EU Space Academy is a free learning platform created to help professionals, entrepreneurs, students, and other stakeholders better understand both the technical and business sides of the European space sector.

Its purpose is quite practical: to make relevant space-industry knowledge more accessible and help people develop the skills needed to work, build companies and grow projects within the European space ecosystem.

What can you learn?

The Academy combines online courses, structured learning paths, workshops and mentoring.

The course content covers a broad range of subjects, including:

  • upstream and downstream space technologies
  • business development and entrepreneurship
  • access to funding and investment
  • regulations and the European space ecosystem
  • security and resilience
  • commercialization of space technologies

Courses are divided into shorter modules and can be completed at the participant’s own pace. For those who prefer more structure, dedicated learning paths combine relevant content around a particular objective, such as building a space company, understanding key technologies, or navigating regulation and security.

Participants can also access practical workshops designed to connect theory with real industry challenges.

Where mentoring comes in

One of the most valuable parts of the EU Space Academy is the possibility to complement online learning with one-to-one mentoring sessions with professionals from the European space sector.

Rather than providing another lecture, mentoring creates space for a focused discussion around an actual challenge.

That can mean reviewing a business idea, discussing how to enter the European space market, understanding where a company fits within the value chain, preparing for partnerships or investment, or simply getting an outside perspective from someone already working in the industry.

Daniela Jović, CEO of ORBITALYX, is part of the EU Space Academy mentoring pool.

Her mentoring focuses particularly on startups and scaleups working within the NewSpace ecosystem, with topics including business development, market access, partnerships, commercialization, industry networking and navigating the European space landscape.

The objective is not to provide generic startup advice, but to look at the specific company, technology or challenge and identify realistic next steps within the space industry.

Making the European space ecosystem easier to navigate

Europe already offers a large number of programmes, institutions, funding mechanisms, accelerators and opportunities.

The difficult part is often understanding how they connect and which ones are actually relevant.

The EU Space Academy helps lower that barrier by combining accessible education with direct access to professionals already working across different parts of the sector.

And perhaps most importantly, the courses, workshops and mentoring opportunities are available free of charge.

For founders, students, professionals exploring a move into space, or companies looking to better understand the European ecosystem, it is a very practical place to start.
